Welcome to our end of year Newsletter,
We have finally reached the end of 2021! While it's been another challenging year, it's also been one to remember for the entire MGAC team.
Despite the extended lockdowns around the country, we had an immensely busy year. We completed a number of important projects both local and further afield, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Rising Events in Mumbai, the Sydney Myer Music Festival, and the Australian Open. We also were lucky enough to be involved with this year’s Paralympic Games with Nick being asked onboard as a commentator for the Wheelchair Basketball events by Channel 7, an experience he won’t soon forget.
We also added add thoughts to the ongoing National Construction Code (NCC) debate. Despite over a decade of advocacy work and policy pushes for the inclusion of minimum accessibility standards to the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022, a number of states and territories have rejected the call to implement these changes. This rejection has potentially devastating consequences, particularly as our population ages and mobility issues continue to be a reality for many millions of Australians. You can read our full whitepaper on the issue here.
Nick and I would like to take this opportunity to send our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all our clients – architects, builders, developers and government agencies. We’ve been provided with amazing opportunities this year from all our clients to do what we do best - to put accessibility at the heart of every design. Regardless of whether it’s a small café or a very large multi-use development, our universal design advice is central to our overall process and successes. It plays a crucial part in our ability to ensure equitable experiences for the cohort of end users with accessibility needs.
This year, the MGAC team has opted to make a charitable donation to Paralympics Australia in lieu of corporate gifts. Paralympics Australia helps Australians with disabilities participate in sport and compete at the Paralympic Games through partnerships with governments, business, sporting bodies and the community. You can help transform lives through the power of sport by donating to Paralympics Australia here.
We thankyou and extend our appreciation for your ongoing support throughout 2021 and look forward to our continued relationship. From all the team at MGAC, we hope you enjoy the much awaited catchup with loved ones around the country.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and safe journeys through the holiday season.
